April 23rd Celebration

The Turkish National Sovereignty Day, the holiday of the Proclamation of our National Sovereignty, celebrated for the 102nd time on 23.04.2025, is a very important national day in Turkey. It was first created by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and is celebrated every year on April 3.

Turkish National Sovereignty and Children's Day combines “National Sovereignty Day” with “Children's Day”.

In 1935, the holiday was legally designated as National Sovereignty Day.  In 1980, the National Security Council changed the name of this holiday to “April 23rd National Sovereignty and Children's Day”.

This change was aimed at harmonizing practice and legislation. The celebrations attracted international attention when UNESCO declared 1979 as the “Year of the Child”. An International Children's Festival was organized on this occasion. Atatürk also played an active role in the celebrations and recognized the importance of this day for future generations.

Our National Sovereignty will live forever!
